Santorini sightseeing
Santorini is a multi-dimensional island. It combines history, breathtaking ambiance, unspoilt natural beauty, picturesque villages. Make sure that you will have some time to visit a couple of wineries in order to taste the unique and very promising local wines.
If you wish to learn more about the history of wine on the island of Santorini you should visit the Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum, which presents the history of wine and the life of vine-growers in Santorini since the 1600s. The museum occupies a natural cave. It is eight meters below ground, 300 meters long and has a labyrinth-like shape. During the tour, the visitors have the opportunity to see representations of the history of wine and at the end they will have the chance to try four of the best wines that our winery produces today.
LOCATION From Fira: Take the road towards Kamari-Airport. At the intersection of Messaria, make a left towards Kamari-Airport. At the next intersection, make a RIGHT towards Kamari. At approximately 400 meters, you will see the Museum on your left.
LOCATION From Kamari: Take the road going to Fira. You will see the Museum on your right approximately 400 meters BEFORE the intersection of Fira-Airport.
Once the commercial capital of Santorini, Emporio is worth a visit to see the old village part with its picturesque small alleys, the remainings of the venetian castle Casteli, Goulas, a square building which was used by the villagers to protect themselves from the pirates and also Palia Panagia, one of the oldest churches on the island of Santorini.
A picturesque village built at the top of Caldera is actually the extension of Fira. The sunset view from here is absolutely stunning. Just to get an idea imagine that the position is such that allowed the villagers to observe the pirates ships coming. The large rock which is located in front of the village is called Skaros and until the beginnings of the 19th century it was a part of the land with a castle on top where all the administrative offices of the island were located. The castle of Scaros was used as an observatory too. Make sure to come for the sunset and let the magic of Santorini surround you.

A roughly 3,500 year old Minoan town preserved in volcanic ash is one of
the most important archaeological discoveries in the eastern Mediterranean.
You can still see the streets of the ancient city, buildings, stairs and even
second floors of buildings, as the volcanic ash preserved them in an excellent condition. Akrotiri is at the southwestern tip of Santorini. On your way you will
have a chance to enjoy the wonderful view.
